Nexuzhealth is transforming the lab market with a patient-centric Laboratory Information System

Nexuzhealth Lab: the first LIS with a patient-first strategy

Today’s dynamic healthcare landscape opens exciting new doors for laboratories to lead in innovation. By embracing digitalization and intelligent systems, they can boost efficiency, enhance quality, and respond faster to emerging insights.
A future-proof and scalable Laboratory Information System (LIS) is key to this transformation. In response to market demand, Nexuzhealth is developing a brand-new LIS built around a clear patient-first strategy. The ambition is bold: to deliver a strong alternative in Belgium and beyond, and help shape the laboratory of the future.

Laboratories play a critical role in healthcare — no less than 70% of all medical diagnoses rely on lab results. A high-performance LIS with a patient-first strategy is therefore essential. Yet many labs today face the limits of their current solutions.

Nexuzhealth Lab offers a scalable, future-ready alternative designed to help labs keep pace with rapid technological, organisational, economic and regulatory change. The system is cloud-based, flexible, quick to implement — enabling clinical biologists and lab teams to focus on what matters most: delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.

The development of Nexuzhealth Lab was announced one year ago. Since then, significant progress has been made. The development team — working internationally via a right-shoring model — has grown substantially.
“We are well into the realisation phase,” says Pieter De Smet, Business Line Director at Nexuzhealth. “This is no longer a plan on paper — this is happening.”

Developed in co-creation

“It’s time to fully integrate laboratories into the digital healthcare journey,” De Smet continues. “For years, we’ve been building an integrated care platform centered on patient data. Nexuzhealth Lab will now connect the laboratory world to that same central data stream.”

The goal is clear: bring all relevant information together in one place to enable faster, better and more preventive care.
Nexuzhealth Lab is being developed in close co-creation with domain experts. “For us, co-creation means continuous, hands-on engagement throughout the entire development process. We’re building solutions that directly reflect their needs and expectations,” De Smet explains.

International interest is also rising. “One of our key advantages is scalability. Labs are no longer tied to on-premises infrastructure or lengthy procurement cycles. Our cloud-based model ensures that we handle infrastructure and security, so labs can focus on their core mission. And seamless integration with other systems is guaranteed through international standards like FHIR, SNOMED, LOINC and IHE.”

Patient-first-strategy

What sets Nexuzhealth Lab apart is its combination of technological innovation, strategic vision, and a strong ecosystem. The patient-first approach is fundamental: lab data should enrich the healthcare journey, making it more efficient, personalised and impactful. But Nexuzhealth aims to go further.

“Lab data still too often sits in isolated silos,” says De Smet. “Our solution ensures that this data travels across the entire care continuum — from a first blood sample at the general practitioner's office to post-surgery follow-up in the hospital. Everyone involved accesses the same up-to-date information. This not only drives efficiency and cost savings by avoiding duplicate testing, but also unlocks the true value of lab data as an engine for continuous improvement.”

From data to insights

In addition to seamless integration and ease of use, Nexuzhealth Lab focuses on operational excellence. The system helps labs fully leverage new technologies — benefiting both laboratory teams and patients alike. Automated workflows, a modern interface, and cloud scalability support labs facing staff shortages and growing complexity.

“Labs today want more than just raw test results,” says De Smet. “They want actionable insights. Whether it’s optimising device quality controls or avoiding unnecessary tests for stable patients — this improves lab efficiency and enhances the patient experience. Nexuzhealth Lab delivers those insights and provides intelligent decision support.”

The first demos of the new system are expected by the end of 2025. At that point, interested labs will be able to request. “Interest is already strong,” De Smet concludes. “The sector is ready for change. Nexuzhealth Lab is our answer — born from clear market demand, and built to become a future-proof solution.”
